The Linux File-Stor Gadget USB Device is a disk drive and not a USB device. If you show hidden devices, you should see the entry even if the device has been disconnected. That's why they show as greyed out in the attached image. Under USB controllers, they show as a Mass Storage device. You should also remove any greyed out Mass Storage devices.

I've deleted the mass storage device and the name is usbstor.inf for the inf file in notepad. But searching File Explorer doesn't come up with any results for usbstor.inf

Edit, finally found one

Plug in your Kobo and then look at the device list and see if you see the driver.

Also, it could be in system as a system file. So check in system to see if you see this running.

Don't delete usbstor.inf. The Challenger Backup .inf file is more likely to be found as a oemxxx.inf file (xxx is a 1 to 3 digit number).

I'm beginning to wonder if a different program installed that driver. The last version I was able to locate is from 2013.

I remove the Linux driver, then when I plug the Kobo in it returns as a driver

There might be compiled .inf files too. I forget what they are called.

That's not the way to do it.

Plug in your Kobo and then go to devices and see if you can find the driver and delete it.

That is what I meant by my post.

I have to uninstall it twice without the Kobo attached, then attach the Kobo and it turns up again, then i can uninstall it once and it goes.

But nothing has changed with the Kobo connection, still not in file explorer

That thread was more about the database corruption issue. Otherwise, the name shown for a connected Kobo ereader depends on where you look at it. Other than with some Windows Preview editions, I did not see the incorrect driver being used.

For instance, my Libra Colour shows in the Safely Eject widget as eReader-4.39.22861, in File Explorer, it shows as KOBOeReader, in Device Manager under Disk Drives, it shows Linux File-Stor Gadget USB Drive and under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, it shows as a USB Mass Storage Device.
