Which calibre plugin for the InkPad Color 3

Hi,

I'm just setting up my new InkPad Color 3, which is model PB743K3. Or at least it mounts as /Volumes/PB743K3 on my Mac.

Which device plugin should I use in Calibre 7.9.0? I've chosen "PocketBook 360+" because 743 is greater than 360 but there are several other choices. Some are possibly for Android models. It is a bit of a crapshoot.

The option I've chosen causes Calibre's bottom status bar to claim "Connected Diva HD", which seems odd. It has successfully added a few pubs to the Books subdirectory though, and I can see their covers in all their glorious 4096 colours.

I've been using the "PocketBook Inkpad 3 (Pro) and X" option as the screen resolution matches the Inkpad Color 3 at 1404x1872. As far as I can tell, the colors remain unaffected.

It definitely is a bit strange Color 3 appears as a Diva HD. Though nothing some quick adjustment to the accepted file types couldn't fix.

I asked in the Calibre Devices forum. Calibre matches USB devices using the vendor id and the device id codes. Unfortunately PB does not use a vendor id that is registered to them, so PBs look like very generic devices and consequently Calibre can't distinguish them. Maybe PB's Android devices are better.

It actually doesn't make any difference; the generic driver will work fine. Calibre just copies files, and doesn't care about resolution or colours etc.

Hi Chris ! How are you.

Just out of curiosity, when you run "Koreader" → "Calibre" → "Connect" on your device, Caliber on your PC displays your device as what?
Or do you see any difference about connecting via the USB port?

I'm enjoying reading on my PocketBook very much! But I am still using the built-in epub 3 reader, not yet (?) koreader. The hardware build quality is really nice.

Some of my programming text books have colour diagrams, and colourised source code just like an IDE. Cool.

On the device detection - Calibre displays this in its debug output:

Code:
USBDevice(busnum=1, devnum=1, vendor_id=0x1d6b, product_id=0x0104, bcd=0x0100, manufacturer=Obreey, product=PB743K3, serial=20080411)
So the vendor_id/product_id combination is "Linux Foundation"/"Multifunction Composite Gadget" which is pretty generic!

Unfortunately Kovid doesn't seem interested in trying to use the product string as disambiguation. I can see his point - it isn't buying any change in functionality.

Though if someone ever wants to write an enhanced PocketBook driver that does things like update Collections on the device, something in the device detection code would have to be changed.
