Amazon silently pushed the version 5.12.2.2.2 either late Dec or this month. (I've checked on wayback machine and this version didn't exist on 2021 Dec 22nd.)

Unfortunately it seems like this is exactly what happened , they fixed the vulnerability for some older devices.

I've updated the OP accordingly.

sorry im on a kindle kids at its at 5.13.0.9.5. Am I able to jailbreak? Im assuming no but I wasn't sure if it was 5.13.... or 5.13.0.0.0. Thank you

Failed on KT3 (8th gen) running Kindle 5.12.2 (356965 025).

The experimental browser gave some error about how it can't open that kind of file.

Trying to save my ooold Kindle I haven't used in years from the awful GUI update.

Wait, nevermind. Missed ones of the 3 slashes!

So what do I do now to keep it from ever updating? I am confused.

PS It still keeps downloading update.bin.tmp.partial into the device. I'm just repeatedly deleting it.

"A memory corruption vulnerability (CVE-2021-4034) in PolKit, a component used in major Linux distributions and some Unix-like operating systems, can be easily exploited by local unprivileged users to gain full root privileges..."

Kindle devices don't use Polkit, so, not gonna happen.

I'm trying to follow this guide but the FW link for PW2 doesn't seem to work. I've searched google and keep seeming to be brought back to this post. Can anyone guide me where to find this FW? I have a Paperwhite2 (9017) with current FW of 5.12.2. Thank you for any advise.

Okay odd, I figured you needed to do an update to the firmware afterwards due to the links below. I'm trying to add a custom screensaver to the PW2 so seems I'm looking for

The design of a device this old isn't bad but Amazon made a device that gives you no functionality to personalize and that is such a bad choice in the eyes of the customer... but then again Amazon doesn't give a crap about its customers nor any human alive.

Hey tryol,

thank for providing and maintaining all this information! Do you know how I can downgrade my Kindle to 5.13.3 or jailbreak my Kindle with firmware 5.13.7?

I happen to have a Kindle PW3 (G090G1) with firmware version 5.13.7 (3763000075). I tried the firmware updating (or downgrading?) tutorial to get back to firmware 5.13.3 since 5.13.7 is not supported, yet. However, after I put the downloaded update.bin file on the Kindle and disconected the USB cable the device told me

"Update Error An invalid update file has been loaded on your device. Please go to www.amazon.com/devicesupport to access the Kindel Software Update page or to contact Kinde Customers Service for assistance."

After closing this dialog the file was delete from my kindle.

Hi, I have a PW3 (Serial G090LK) on firmware 5.8.10

Should I upgrade to firmware 5.13.3 to use KindleBreak?

Just want to be sure I do the right thing.
